The Congregation of the Sons of the Immaculate Conception was founded in Rome on Sept. 8th, 1857 by the Blessed Luigi Maria Monti. It is dedicated to the care and assistance of the sick, the destitute, the orphaned, the abandoned and the education and formation of the needy young people. The vocation of caring for the sick and for the youth continues to be the main charism of the Congregation, leading the Brothers to various countries and continents, bringing to all the healing love of Jesus. In a spirit of selflessness and Christian dedication, all members of the Congregation, brothers, priests, doctors, pharmacists, teachers, lab technicians and nurses, are encouraged to continue their spiritual and professional development in order to carry out their duties with full commitment and competence. Their missionary zeal has led them to various parts of the world, offering spiritual and material assistance as a sign of hope to those in need.
Members of the religious community arrived in Canada in the early sixties. Along with serving the faithful of St. Anthony’s Parish, in Toronto, the brothers opened a house to welcome young immigrants. Their apostolate continued in St. Sebastian’s Church. In 1982 the community moved in Woodbridge and took over St. Margaret Mary’s Parish. In 1985 two priests of the Congregation took the responsibility of building the newly erected Parish of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbridge. In September 2002 the community also accepted the responsibility to serve the parish of the Epiphany of our Lord in Scarborough where the Brothers continue their commitment to the vision of its founder, to glorify God and the Immaculate Mother through concrete love and service for one’s neighbor.
September 29 2007 two brothers of the Congregation, Father UgoSturabotti and Rev. George Puramadathil CFIC (Assistant) requested by Bishop Henry of Calgary took responsibility to serve at our Lady of Grace Italian and English parish.
