Parish Council

The Church, through the power of the Holy Spirit, is the living Body of Christ.  The essence of parish as a community is a union of people who care about one another, who think of themselves as the Body of Christ and as the people of God.  The duties of a Parish Council Member include regular attendance at divine services and participation in sacramental life of the Church, so as to set an example for the parish.  The best Parish Council Members are not necessarily those who are business-oriented, but rather Church-oriented and Christ-centered.  We strive to be ambassadors of faith.  As a group, we reflect on the parish’s ministerial activity, and discern what needs to be changed or developed in the parish to make it more faithful to what God is calling it to be.  When we sit as a council we are responsible for the total needs of the Universal Church, as well as those of the parish.

The Parish Council functions as an advisory board to the Pastor regarding the spiritual and material concerns of OLOG Parish.  Through the Council, the priorities and directions of the parish are determined, new ministries undertaken, and budgets approved.  In addition to doing long range planning, the Council members deal with whatever pastoral concerns the pastor and community present.  The Pastor works collaboratively with the Council and participates in the workings of the Council.  Our Parish Council assists the Pastor in the life and mission of OLOG Church through deliberation and consultation.  We recommend policies and programs to fulfill the mission of the Church in light of OLOG’s social, economic, cultural diversity, and resources.  We relay concerns of the Parish to the Pastor, attempt to improve and foster communications to and from the Pastor, and provide suggestions and new initiatives to promote the functioning and spiritual development of the parish.

In September 2009, Father Ugo moved to re-instate a consultative body to the Parish, which had previously been inoperative since the departure of Father Bryan.  As a transition, the present Council members were all individually asked by the Pastor to serve, with the understanding that future councils will be composed of both elected and appointed members.  The current Council consists of: Father Ugo Sturabotti, Fr. Jimmy Puttananickal, Elizabeth Oddone Paolucci, Lina Monte, Libero Plenzik, Raymond Morgan, Fred Underhill, Pio Giorgio Tignanelli, and Giuseppe Marcucci.

The Council meets the last Wednesday of every Month at 7:30pm.  Typical Council Meetings include:

  • Review of the Parish financial statements for the previous month.
  • Review and approval of various requests for funding outside the annual approved budget.
  • Review of the Parish calendar for the upcoming three to four month period.
  • Planning for upcoming special events and programs.
  • Reports by Council members on current activities within their areas of responsibility.

Although Council meetings are not “open” meetings, any parishioner wishing to bring a matter before the Council is requested to communicate the substance of their concern in advance to the Council Chair, so that adequate provision can be made in the agenda to review, discuss, and take any necessary action on the matter.  Please use our contact form to reach Dr. Elizabeth Oddone Paolucci, Chair, for any items related to the Parish Council.

Finance Committee - Raymond Morgan: HEAD

The Finance Committee is one of the main working groups of our Parish.  Members on this Committee organize and submit yearly budgets for church approval, and assist the Pastor, Administration, and other Parish Committees in the control, management, and reporting of the overall finances of the Parish.  They examine the needs, resources, and budget of the parish and advise the Pastor on appropriate distribution of funds and on allocation adjustments where required.  The Finance Committee reviews all pertinent financial documents such as income/expense statements (actual to budget), budgets and balance sheets to insure that sound financial practices are being followed, and to advises the Pastor and Administration on financial practices that fall within the Diocesan guidelines. Furthermore, the Committee recommends approval or change of annual Diocesan and Governmental reports as required.  The Finance Committee also consults on equipment purchases where necessary. Recommendations are also made relative to fund- raising, planning, maintenance programs and personnel matters related to financial considerations. The Finance Committee has become very proactive on behalf of the Parish in presenting reviews of our financial picture to the Parish.

The Committee meets about six times per year and is made up of 3 individuals, Fred Underill, Robert Paolucci and Raymond Morgan, who have a combination of expertise in accounting, finance, stewardship, and business management to serve responsible use of the monetary resources contributed by the parish as a whole.
