CATECHISM AND BAPTISMAL PREPARATION and CHILDREN’S LITURGY (SUNDAY SCHOOL)

Catechists are trained lay ministers who engage in religious instruction of our Roman Catholic Community.  At Our Lady of Grace we are blessed to have such wise, kind and giving catechists who collaborate with our Priests to prepare both candidates and their parents for the various sacraments they are seeking.  The preparation programs offered at OLOG include the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, the Eucharist, and Confirmation), Reconciliation, and Matrimony, as well as Development of Faith Programs such as Alpha, RCIA, and Catholicism 101.  Preparation of candidates includes emphasizing the communal nature of their sacramental commitment, as well as welcoming the family into the active life of the Church.

This important Ministry directly fulfills Jesus’ instructions to the disciples, to share the Word and form one Church body.  Catechists prepare candidates for the sacraments by forming teams and delivering the “training” modules.  Parents and children for the sacraments of Initiation and Reconciliation are required to attend all parish instructional sessions, and parents are urged to supplement their children’s learning through the additional teaching resources they receive at the time of registration.

Our Lady of Grace offers preparation sessions for parents who desire to baptize their child into the faith community. Parents are encouraged to reflect upon the significance of the sacrament through teaching, a video presentation, and group sharing. Baptism classes are held every two months throughout the year. We also encourage any parent or parents to join our team if they so desire to help with these sessions.  Anyone interested is asked to please contact the Parish Office.

What Is Children’s Liturgy? – During the 11:00 am Sunday Mass, children from our parish are invited to gather in the upper hall to listen to a simplified Liturgy of the Word more appropriate to their level of understanding. After the Liturgy of the Word, the children work on an activity with their teachers, and then re-join their parents and the rest of the congregation in celebrating the remainder of the mass.

All children are welcome between the ages of 3-12 years old. Older children, 13 and up are also welcome to attend the Liturgy and help out with the younger students. If you are interested in becoming a Children’s Liturgy Leader please contact the parish office.  No teaching experience required! Time commitment is approximately one Sunday per month, with a teaching partner!
