As an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, commonly referred to as a Eucharistic Minister, lay people can serve the Catholic church by distributing Holy Communion during Mass and bringing it to the homebound. As a Eucharistic Minister you serve God’s holy people in the assembly, and in special circumstances, like in their home or in hospital. It is extremely important to understand our role as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist; Priests and deacons are the ordinary ministers of the Eucharist. If enough ordained ministers are present at Mass, extraordinary ministers should defer to them and not distribute Holy Communion.
There is a simple process that must be followed in order to become a Eucharistic Minister: Practice your Catholic faith through a prayerful relationship with God; take advantage of the sacraments regularly; attend a training session through the Calgary Diocesan Religious Education Department and through our parish; arrive at Mass early when you are serving as a minister of the Eucharist so that you can prepare spiritually. Please contact Daniela Grossberndt if you are interested in this ministry.
Lectors read the Word of God at Masses and other Liturgies. In proclaiming the Scriptures, the lector becomes the voice through which the Spirit speaks in the worshipping assembly. Click here to learn more.
Members of this group coordinate the provision of flowers (real or artificial) for the church altar, as well as decorate the entire Church for special events and holidays as appropriate. Click here to learn more!
USHERS & GREETERS – ITALIAN HEAD: Salvatore Nori and ENGLISH HEAD: Roland Morin
There are a total of ## ushers that comprise the ministry for both the Italian and English Masses. These members greet church members and visitors, assist with seating and reserved seating as needed, collect the offering, take up offerings, deliver offerings to the Counting Committee (i.e., those who count the monies received during church services), coordinate the gifts to the altar, and distribute bulletins and other materials as needed after Saturday and Sunday Masses. Service by these members is needed before, during, and after the worship service. Being an Usher and Greeter is a great job that requires only a little time and a big smile!
